Pupils in Year 3 & 4 have had a super time in the last few days, stand up paddle boarding on Semerwater, biking the Swale Trail and climbing at Marrick Priory. We hope that you enjoy watching the short film - just click on the image below. You can also browse all of the photos in the gallery.
Year 5 & 6 Adventure Week July 2021
Having missed their visit to the Lake district in January this year, we've been busy arranging a week of adventure based learning here in Swaledale for our Year 5 & 6 class. We had a fantastic week, with an action packed programme that included canoeing, mountain biking, bushcraft, rock climbing, archery, problem solving, a walk through the mine workings of Gunnerside Gill and an overnight bivouac. Pupils rose to the challenge brilliantly - well done everyone! We hope that you enjoy looking through the photos.

A Christmas Message December 2020
In the last few days each class has prepared a Christmas Message. You can watch it here. We hope that you enjoy it; Happy Christmas Everyone!
Christingle December 2020
This week all of our classes have enjoyed a classroom-based Christingle service, led by Reverend Caroline. The sessions have explored both the Christmas story and the meaning of Christingle. Each element has a special meaning and helps to tell the Christian story:
- The orange represents the world
- The red ribbon (or tape) symbolises the love and blood of Christ
- The sweets and dried fruit represent all of God’s creations
- The lit candle represents Jesus’s light in the world, bringing hope to people living in darkness
This year KS1 pupils have used a traditional candle, lighting this at home. We’re had some lovely feedback from pupils and parents, with some families lighting their candle by their Christmas tree at home.
The Polar Express December 2020
KS1 pupils have been designing and making carriages for the Polar Express in DT lessons this half term. They have learned about wheels, axles and chassis, and have used this understanding to build their carriages, either with a storage compartment or a seating area. The completed train is on display in the classroom and looks fantastic.
Our School Values November 2020
All classes have spent time this week exploring our school values through art. There's some great work and interpretation. The pictures below have been chosen for display around school and on our website. Well done everyone.
'My North Yorkshire' Writing Competition November 2020
Last year, pupils in Key Stage 2 took part in a writing competition arranged by CPRE. Over 700 pupils took part from schools across the county, explaining in their own words why they love North Yorkshire, and what it is like to live here, in a task titled ‘My North Yorkshire'.
We’re delighted to let you know that George Hird’s writing was judged in 2nd place in the KS2 category. Congratulations George! We hope that you enjoy reading his work.
Remembrance Assembly November 2020
In recent weeks, each class has worked with Rachel Pinkney, Methodist Schools and Families Worker, to develop our Remembrance Assembly. Each class recorded their contribution so that we could all attend the final assembly at the same time. Even though pupils watched their assembly in their own classrooms, there was a strong sense of collective worship. The assembly was produced in two sections and these can be viewed using the links below.
Remembrance Part 2 (Contributions from Year 5 & 6 and closing prayer from Rachel Pinkney)
Reverend Melanie also shared a Remembrance message with pupils. Please use the link below if you would like to watch it.
Fell Running October 2020
The fell running club has been out after school on Fridays this half term. We've explored local paths and bridleways and made it to the top of Calver Hill. Click on the photo below to watch a short film. Thank you to Alfresco Adventures for the drone footage that we hope you enjoy.
Sport Premium Award October 2020
We’re pleased to let you know that having won a North Yorkshire Sport Premium Award, we have also won the regional final for Innovation! We try to make the most of opportunities for outdoor education in our local area. We made an application based on this work and particularly that to support our Y6 cohort in the summer term this year. James Kirton, a former Olympic swimmer, announced the winners earlier this week. You can watch the presentation on YouTube:
